Chapter 1: Recognising the Signs of Feeling Lost

Alright, I confess, I have a carefully calculated habit of colouring everything with a generous dose of optimism, because when you feel lost, life feels anything but positive! Feeling lost is a downright horrible experience! The very nature of this terrain attracts the likes of vultures and predators who feed on vulnerability. However recognising the signs of feeling lost will be a pivotal moment in a person’s spiritual journey. The path of a seeker can be compared to The Fool in the tarot deck, which can be seen either positive or negative depending on the way it is observed.

The Fool upright is represented as new beginnings, innocence, adventure and youth. But when he is reversed, he can make bad decisions which may lead to a time when he is likely to be taken advantage of. This statement rings all the more true the more pride you have. Predatory individuals who see through any pretence you wear, may take advantage of your glaringly obvious vanity!

Chapter 2: Exploring Different Paths to Spiritual Awakening

The plethora of paths you can take when you are starting your spiritual journey can be daunting. You may even find yourself like I did, envying the people that found sanctuary in the safe confines of a church where they had a sense of belonging and guidance!

However if that path is not for you, you will know, you will feel it…it simply will not resonate!

The path of the seeker is a solitary path, for the most part which may eventually lead to you discovering your own community. When I was in the initial stages of self-discovery, I stumbled across an authentic Thai Buddhist temple in the very exotic city of London, England!

Buddhapadipa temple in Wimbledon, England

Here I learnt with Thai monks how to meditate whilst walking and sitting cross legged. The goal of meditation is to bring your mind to a single point such as, walking or breathing and then eventually to go beyond thought, and reemerge back into pure consciousness. At the temple they sang mantras and prayed to a statue of Buddha. Whether you decide to do this or not will come down to personal choice, however I have a very solid aversion to worshipping idols.

Over the ages us humans have had a weird habit of giving our power away to a saviour. This practice of giving our power to something outside ourselves is pathological and needs to be questioned. Even the Buddha said it best: “Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others“.

Seek guidance but not a saviour, you are on the heroes journey after all! Journaling is a great way of drawing out a road map of your mind but I do have a caution that I’ll explain in the chapter 4!

Chapter 3: Exploring Natural Healing Modalities

In today’s fast-paced world, many individuals are seeking alternative and natural healing modalities to restore balance and well-being. A few modalities that have gained significant attention and have worked wonders on my healing journey are aura-cleansing and natural medicine, specifically kambo and flower remedies.

Aura cleansing is the practice of clearing negative energy from one’s energetic field. It aims to promote a sense of harmony, clarity, and vitality. By removing stagnant or harmful energies, individuals can experience a renewed sense of self and enhanced overall well-being. My personal experience with Aura cleansing sent a wave of change throughout my life as blockages which previously plagued my life began to drop away.

Flower remedies, derived from different flowers through unique extraction methods, are another form of plant medicine that can support emotional well-being. These gentle yet potent remedies are often used to address specific emotional imbalances or promote positive qualities such as confidence or inner peace. One particular plant medicine that has gained attention in recent years is Kambo. Derived from the secretion of an Amazonian tree frog, Kambo is known for its purifying effects on the body and mind. It is believed to cleanse toxins, boost immunity, and promote mental clarity.

Kambo ceremonies have become popular among those seeking deep healing experiences and spiritual growth. Kambo, is a powerful Amazonian frog secretion which temporarily causes side effects which is compared to a “very bad hangover” as it cleanses the body at a deep level releasing toxins and thus should only be practiced by trained healers. As more individuals explore these natural healing modalities, it is important to approach them with an open mind and seek guidance from experienced practitioners. While they may not be suitable for everyone or replace conventional medical treatments, healing techniques, like Kambo, Aura cleansing and flower remedies offer intriguing possibilities for those seeking holistic approaches to wellness.

Chapter 4: Connecting with Your Inner Self through Self-Reflection

Many people on the spiritual path refer to journaling as an effective tool for self inquiry but none speak of the shadow side of keeping a journal. Journaling is only useful when it is coupled with brutal honesty and felt emotion. If the person journaling doesn’t have a basic level of self awareness, then the journal is yet another way to indulge the ego which will only serve to delay your growth.

Be so honest with yourself that it hurts! Let it hurt, let it bleed, let it sting, then let it go! Don’t worry about what you want to feel when you read your words back, the journey of self discovery is seldom pretty, on the contrary it can be ugly and frankly horrifying, but I promise you, the deeper you mine, the prettier the treasures you will find. Get out of your mind and connect with the emotion.

Once you have allowed yourself to explore trapped emotions, the trick is not to identify with the narrative surrounding the emotion, Eckhart Tolle explains this process best in his book The Power of Now. Journaling will allow you to start developing self-awareness which is the single most important tool to have for personal development and spiritual advancement.

Chapter 5: Seeking Guidance from Spiritual Teachers and Mentors

Is the Guru still necessary?

As I mentioned previously, there’s a significant difference between seeking guidance and mentorship and looking for a saviour. Any teacher, mentor or guide worth their salt will point you back to yourself when you drift too far away from your (inner) truth. In fact the litmus test for any student of spirituality should be to vet your teacher by listening to whether they remind you to look within yourself for the answers you seek.

Do not assume that all people with Gnostic wisdom (Gnostic: relating to knowledge, especially esoteric mystical knowledge) know everything or even have your best interest at heart. Conman and perfectly flawed human beings exist in all walks of life and sometimes the ego has an uncanny way of disguising itself by wearing the “Guru”!

Chapter 6: Nurturing Your Spirituality in Everyday Life

If you want to see any benefits from meditation it is something that should be practiced daily, consistency is key to seeing any real results. Journal as often as possible! Some people like to do this after they meditate in the morning, but there’s really no golden rule on how often you feel called to journal or at what magical hour! This is personal and therefore must be tailored to each individuals needs.

Conclusion: Embracing the Journey of Self-Discovery and Growth Through Spirituality

The journey of self discovery and spiritual growth is a solitary path and as such there should be an air of experimentation about what works for you. Eventually you may expand your horizons and explore other spiritual paths. It truly is a sacred gift to explore the depths of our true nature and no matter how difficult the path may sometimes be, it is always an honour to experience and indulge in this wonderful journey called life.
